Flash is over in the time it takes to smoke a cigarette, says Smokelong Magazine, although the smoker need not be you, dear writer, and their name shouldn’t be taken as an endorsement. Flash is big feeling mood pieces, or experimental forms, or traditionally-plotted stories writ small. Flash is surprisingly diverse, as are the markets purchasing it. In this generative seminar, we’ll explore the expansive genre of flash fiction, unpack pro markets’ wish lists, analyze a few deep-yet-brief stories, and set goals for our future flash projects. 


Liz Levin is an educator and writer who lives near Chicago with one vociferous cat and the three other humans who cater to his needs. Recently, she trapped the Greek god Ares in a founding document.
