About the event
Writing the Wild
4-week generative class | Lyric nonfiction
In this four-week workshop, writers will explore how the natural world can serve as catalyst, mirror, and counterpoint in creative nonfiction. Through the lens of lyric storytelling, we’ll examine the works of writers such as Anne Carson, Terry Tempest Williams, Barry Lopez, Robert Macfarlane, and Richard Powers (for his ecological consciousness in narrative). Together we’ll study how attention, fragmentation, embodiment, and silence operate in landscape-based essays.
Each week includes:
Close reading of a short lyric essay or excerpt
A focused craft mini-lesson (on image, pace, form, or perception)
